Images That Communicate A single photograph can touch us more deeply than words. A single moment, captured for all time. That ever so slight blink-of-an-eye moment, extracted from the world forever, taken from the constant movement of Life so that we can study it at our own pace. This is why photography has helped define the way we think about the world around us. It has shaped how we think about ourselves and, I believe, photography can - and should - continue to do this. |
Relevance Despite the great leaps science and technology have taken over the last century, there is little being done today in photography that was not first done by great photographers of the past. It was these people who pioneered the photographic medium into social relevance, after all. Creating great photographs takes much more than the ability to purchase the latest almost automatic equipment and pushing a button. It takes thought and preconception. It takes perception. It takes the ability to connect with not just people, but with the inner spirit of situations and the world around us. It takes precision and true open- mindedness. It takes patience! And it almost always requires knowledge of the subject matter. To truly succeed, I believe, the photographer has to genuinely care about what he or she is photographing. |
